Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS) — up to $1,000 for eligible kids
Australian families may access Medicare’s CDBS, which provides up to $1,000 in basic dental services over two calendar years for eligible children aged 0–17.
Included services typically cover: exams, X-rays, cleans, fluoride, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment on baby teeth, and extractions.
Not covered: cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics (braces), or treatment in a hospital.

Age-by-age guidance
Toddlers (1–3 years)
First visit by 12 months or when the first tooth erupts.
Focus on brushing technique, teething support and diet habits.
Early primary (4–7 years)
Fissure sealants and fluoride to prevent decay.
Monitoring spacing and bite as new teeth erupt.
Tweens & teens (8–17 years)
Sports mouthguards, grinding checks and hygiene around braces/aligners.
Conversations about sugar, sports drinks and whitening myths.
For any pain or injury (e.g., a chipped tooth at sport), visit emergency dentistry.
Important: If a baby tooth is knocked out, do not reinsert it. If an adult tooth is knocked out, gently rinse and reinsert or place in milk/saline and come in immediately.
